Announcing the results in Dar es Salaam yesterday, NECTA Executive Secretary, Dr Charles Msonde, named the top ten schools as Kisimiri, Feza Boy’s, Alliance Girls, Feza Girl’s, Tabora Boys, Marian Boys, Kibaha, Mzumbe, Ilboru and Tandahimba.
As the top least schools, seven are from Unguja namely Mpendae, Ben Bella, Tumekuja, Jang’ombe, Kiembesamaki, Al-Ihsan Girls and Lumbumba. From the Mainland are Azania (Dar es Salaam), Tanzania Adventist (Arusha) and Green Bird Boys (Kilimanjaro). He named the overall best students per combination as Hassani Gwaay for the Science combination from Tabora Boys; Japhet Lawrence (Tusiime) for the Commerce combination and Edith Msenga (St Mary’s Mazinde Juu) for the Arts combination.
Dr Msonde told reporters yesterday that overall performance for the general results of Form Six this year dropped by 0.93 per cent compared to last year's, where the performance was 98.87 per cent unlike the 97.94 per cent this time around.
Moreover, he added, the council has cancelled the results of 25 students due to cheating during examinations including using mobile phones to exchange answers and entering the examination rooms with notes.
However, he said, ten students who did not do some of the subjects due to health problems have been given chance to re-do them next year like the 30 students who did not attempt all subjects for the same health reasons.
As for the subjects, he said, science subject performance has dropped between 5.36 and 8.9 per cent, Arts 0.00 to 4.43 per cent and commerce 1.7 to 6.9 per cent. A total of 71,551students sat for the examination of whom 26,977 girls and 44,574 boys passed the exams with division I, II and III.
Meanwhile, Dr Msonde announced to public servants with fake certificates to surrender them before they are caught. He said that they are strict on the matter and they are using a number of means to identify those with fake or duplicate certificates.
He also announced the Grade A Teachers Certificate examination and Diploma in Secondary Education Examination results. For Grade A Teachers, 10,747 sat for the examinations of which 99.81 per cent passed and for the Diploma in Secondary Education Examination 337 students (which is 84.46 per cent) passed the exams and 13 per cent failed.
